Foreign Film Fridays: Mar Adentro

Happy Friday!  I feel like this week flew by for me.  Hope you had a good week. Well, this week I had the chance to rewatch my Foreign Film pick for today, which is: Mar Adentro (The Sea Inside) This is another Oscar winner for Best Foreign Language Film in 2004 representing Spain.  It tells the true life story of Ramon Sampedro.  At 20 years old Ramon became a quadriplegic after suffering a terrible accident while diving in the Ocean.   Twenty-eight years after his accident we find Ramon fighting the Spanish government for his right to end his life … Continue reading

Foreign Film Fridays: Una Noche

Happy weekend everyone!   As I mentioned before,  I enjoy watching movies and most of all I’m always on the look out for Foreign Films.  My pick for today is:  Una Noche (One Night) This film tells the story of three teenagers in Havana, Cuba.  Two of the teenagers (Elio and Raul) are best friends and have been planning on fleeing Cuba.  But, when Raul is accused of assaulting a tourist his best friend Elio speeds up the process of fleeing for Miami in a makeshift raft.  Elio’s twin sister (Lila) knows the best friends are up to something and … Continue reading

Foreign Film Fridays: Maria Llena Eres de Gracia

My Foreign Film series continues this week with one that I personally own. Maria Llena Eres de Gracia (Maria Full of Grace) This film is from Colombia.  It tells the story of Maria, a Colombian teenager,  who decides to become a drug mule to help her family financially.  In exchange for a handsome sum of money and a trip to New York City Maria has to swallow over 60 pellets of heroin.   I’ve heard many stories of drug mules in the news and I always wondered what would lead someone to make this choice. As the subtitle suggests, this … Continue reading

Foreign Film Fridays: Cinema Paradiso

Today I’m continuing my Foreign Film Series.  As I mentioned last week, my husband and I enjoy watching movies at home every weekend.  We always check out the list of Foreign Films either on Netflix or HBOGo.  So, I thought it would be a fun way to start off the weekend. I do want to mention that while I love HBOGo we will be re-evaluating our cable options in the Fall.  We may end up with an antenna for local channels and a Roku box (affiliate link) for streaming Netflix.  But for now we enjoy getting HBOGo included with our discounted cable … Continue reading

Foreign Film Fridays: El Secreto De Sus Ojos

TGIF!  I’m so glad the weekend is here and although we are getting another snow storm on Sunday, I always look forward to the weekend.  After all, everybody’s working for the weekend!  Remember that song? I think I’m dating myself with that one. Well, if you didn’t know, I love 80s music. Another thing I love is watching movies at home.  My husband and I watch movies every weekend.  This is the main reason why we bought a home with a finished basement because he wanted to build a home theater.  This also fits well with our budget because we … Continue reading
